Manhattanhenge
- Mystically, the setting sun has positioned itself just so it is perfectly aligned with the east/west streets crossing Manhattan. Sign of the apocalypse? Nah, this occurs semi-annually.
- As temperatures rise, so does the Chicago homicide rate. With 10 murders just this past weekend, we are already 58% ahead of last year's pace. By the time of our late July vacation to the land of plenty, it should look like Syria.
- Serena Williams lost in the first round of the French Open.
- The Flubbie's can't even lose good. One game away from tying the longest consecutive losing streak, they beat the Padres. Anyway, something like 4 out of 7 of the longest modern losing steaks belong to the Wimps of Wrigley.
- Things aren't necessarily better off closer to home, though. Ginormous radioactive bluefin tuna are being caught offshore. Makes you wonder: was it really worth the long swim from Japan just to get caught? And would you require wasabi with that sushi?

Weekend in review
- Traded Facebook on Friday, made a little, but in the end it was not a "like" (someone called it an "IPOcalypse"). Hung out at the pool with the guys apre work. The kids partook of their school carnival. Returned to Newport later that evening for a leukemia benefit honoring a friend of the wifey.
- Saturday chilled (after cleaning). Josh had a skate party (retro) in Orange. So, we walked the old town and had dinner at Watson's Soda Fountain. Who knew?
- Today was very nice. Took Cubs down to Del Mar by the sea (redundant) for some doggie beach time, walked the town, and had lunch at Mia's (linguini vongole and an Italian chopped salad). Showered the pup. Hammocked. (hmmm...just made that word up - a new verb). And out to Chinese food (Chinesed?? - nah). That concludes our eating out portion for quite awhile.

Geni Wednesday
Been doing some digging:
- In documents, Avigdor Willner can also be found under Awigdor, Wigdor, Victor, and Izidor (?). He arrived first, settled on Throop St. in Brooklyn and later sent for his family. He came and stayed with what we now think is his brother Abraham Geffner (whose boat papers read Geffner f Wilner and lists his father as Isaac also). Geffner had a wife Rose and 3 sons George, Nathan and Moshe (aka Morris and/or Murray).
- When Sam (Salomon) came over he was listed as a "scholar". Avigdor's naturalization papers listed his birthplace as Chartnzwce, Poland and Sapowce, Poland, that is wife Bertha was born in Okus, Romania, their kids included Tauba (Tillie) and Lea (Lena), and Sam's birthday in March (?).
- Itzchuk Willner (aka Isaac Simon and Sammy's grandfather) was born in Sapowczy, Galicia.
- The Cohen/Sachs(Sacks) cousin relationship remains a mystery, but was able to trace the Sachs back to 1910.
- Still trying to figure out where Meyer and Rebecca Kaplan came across (possibly together in 1906 from Russia).
- Found a possible link to Lena Goldberg's Louisiana upbringing, although she might have been born in Russia and her mom might have been Jennie instead of Sarah...hmmm
- Aaron Davidson's naturalization papers says he was born in Mainesti, Romania, came over in 1902, had 4 kids including Moses and Rosa, and swore off any allegiances to Ferdinand I, King of Romania.

2 Poems...by Josh
Wave
Wave
Majestic, beautiful
Crashing, floating, cruising
Shred the gnar
break
A Fisher
A fisher went to go fish,
and he had a catching wish.
He sent down his bait,
and fish he ate,
on top of a silver dish.
