Working Waffle

I just got to say:  it's been a challenging work year, to say the least.  Things seem to be turning for the better.  I see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Nothing like a challenge to get me motivated.

Soup is good food

Did I mention the girl child likes her soup?  Well, upon walking into the house with a case (not a 6 pack, but a case) of the Campbell's, she shrieked with delight, "MY BABIES!"

p.s.:  she lost her 2nd baby tooth today, during a brownies meeting...

Not just for breakfast anymore...

The girl child could literally eat chicken noodle soup 3 meals a day....

Oh, the humanity...

So, far from home, visiting sweaty Myrtle Beach, we retreat to my brother's condo for lunch after fun beachin' and pooling.  We're eating murkey sandwiches and the kids are eating PB&J's, enjoying the company of the Jareds.  All of a sudden, we hear a panicked cry from the corner.  We look over to see blood spewing from Jillian's mouth.  Well, not really spewing, more like a spot.  Our 7 year old, last of all her friends, finally lost her first tooth, after having a wiggler for several weeks.  She seemed more scared than excited.  She was a little nervous that the tooth fairy wouldn't find her while on vacation.  I said, "what's a tiny tooth like that worth anyway, a quarter?"  Daughter responds, "No way, 10 to 20 bucks!"  I said, " no way, I've heard of the rare tooth that might fetch a dollar, now and then."  Needless to say, the next morning their was $10 under her pillow and a type written note from the fairy, which was astounding because we had no typewriter or printer.  My baby, the toothless wonder, is all growed up.

It's Cheesey

They've been in the midwest less than 24 hours and have already hit potbelly's, white castle, culver concretes, Omega, the jelly belly factory and the following:

take your kids to work day

The kids survived their first day of sailing camp, sculling and braving the frigid (and putrid) bay.  Took them back to my office, where Jillie played on the internet and drew on the giant white board.  Josh held his own during a Halo tournament.  It took him no time to adapt to the different version and given a little more playing time, he could probably even beat Ed.

Meet the dread pirate Jillian Jelly Bones

And in literary news, I finished the Millenium series.  All in all, highly recommendable, although the last book could have been edited in half.  Can't wait for the film (Americanized) versions.

a short poem

Guess who
 went to the zoo?
And what did she spot? -
An Ocelot

(you can't see him, 'cause he's on the tree limb)

Ocelot, Ocelot...

Ocelot, ocelot, where have you gone?
Morning is over and new slouch is on...
Your stripes could all fade in the poisonous day...
When you see the sunlight move out of the way...

You prance with the beast you berate every night...
And silently slouch through the forest by light...
Don't be the only one left on the block...
Come hide in the herd and float with the flock...

Ocelot, ocelot, where are you now?
You never listen to me anyhow...
You wandered and ambled you walk now you run...
Knowing you'll bake like a snake in the sun...
