It's Cheesey

They've been in the midwest less than 24 hours and have already hit potbelly's, white castle, culver concretes, Omega, the jelly belly factory and the following:

And now, today's geography lesson:

Bangalore is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. Bangalore is nicknamed the Silicon Valley of India, Garden City, Metropolitan City, India's Most Expensive City. Located on the Deccan Plateau in the south-eastern part of Karnataka, Bangalore is India's third most populous city and fifth-most populous urban agglomeration.
Though historical references to the city predate 900 AD, a modern written history of continuous settlement exists only from 1537, when Kempe Gowda, who many regard as the architect of modern Bangalore, built a mud-brick fort at the site and established it as a province of the imperial Vijayanagara Empire. During the British Raj, it became a centre of colonial rule in South India
Today as a large city and growing metropolis, Bangalore is home to many of the most well-recognized colleges and research institutions in India. Numerous public sector heavy industries, software companies, aerospacetelecommunications, and defence organisations are located in the city. A demographically diverse city, Bangalore is a major economic and cultural hub and the fastest growing major metropolis in India.

Welcome visitor from this garden and metropolitan agglomeration, whatever that is.

take your kids to work day

The kids survived their first day of sailing camp, sculling and braving the frigid (and putrid) bay.  Took them back to my office, where Jillie played on the internet and drew on the giant white board.  Josh held his own during a Halo tournament.  It took him no time to adapt to the different version and given a little more playing time, he could probably even beat Ed.

Meet the dread pirate Jillian Jelly Bones

And in literary news, I finished the Millenium series.  All in all, highly recommendable, although the last book could have been edited in half.  Can't wait for the film (Americanized) versions.

Happy Birfday America

A new family tradition began (and possibly ended) today.  Hot dogs for breakfast.  Got to be more nutritious than Apple Jacks, right?  Anyway, we have long been fans of competitive eating and have followed the annual Nathan's 4th of July extravaganza, which comes on ESPN at 9:00 AM, our time.  This year's was a little disappointing.  Joey Chestnut, the defending champ, had no real competition as Kobiyashi sat out due to a contract dispute.  Seriously?  Doesn't he know that there's a recession going on?  The total count, 54, was way off last year's 68.  But not to be out-done, Super Cubby, stealthily snatched a dog during the excitement and had it down his throat in one gulp.  Wifey had to reach way down there, after releasing Cubby's jaw's grip of life, to extract said weenie.

Invasion of the, uh, hammock invaders...

The P's arrived for their mid-summer exodus from the Sonoran.  All is well.  Had a little BBQ, a slumber party, an early morning trip to Coronado for the 3rd of July parade (can't conflict with church), our annual pilgrimage to Pt. Loma seafood (the memorial site of Josh's first ever spanking) and another BBQ.

Like I said, all was swell...until my folks decided to upgrade to an Iphone.  What have I done!?!.  I've possibly created a monster.  Too much technology in the wrong hands.  We'll see.

Random

How weird is that?  The blog got a visitor from Huntington, NY.  That's where I'm from.  Smallish world.

If I were a member of the Rickett's family....

It's almost the all-star break and the flubbies are like a gajillion games out of first place.  They're like 0 and 72 against the last place Pirates.  No Cub should make the all-star team.  So, if I were the new owner of the team, I'd...

  • fire Jim Hendry and hire me...
  • early retire Pinella and call up Ryno
  • eat Zambrano's contract and trade him for a Single-A prospect (or put him in RF or DH, in the meantime)
  • trade D-Lee for a Double-A prospect...bring back Micah
  • and while we're at it, package Nady, Baker, Tracy and Fukudome and throw in Jeff Samardzija
  • Tell Aramis to man up or move on
  • Fonte - YES
  • More Sam Fuld
  • Bring back Reed Johnson and DeRo
  • Move spring training back to Catalina (or San Clemente)
  • Beat the freakin' Pirates
  • Send in these guys:
